Spring has sprung. We just saw the passage of another Earth Day on April 22. So it's rather fitting that the New York International Auto Show, on April 12, 2017, just saw fit to award the new 94-Ah 2017 BMW i3 the inaugural 2017 World Urban Car moniker. And it's no wonder, with the BMW Group’s ongoing commitment to mobility that's sustainable, as shown through the automaker's first all-electric, ultra-durable carbon fiber vehicle.
The 2014 BMW i3 launch had the initial intention to create a Mega City Vehicle capable of traversing the dense cities of the future. Today, in 2017, the currently accoladed BMW iteration offers the long-haul range and dynamic performance ideal for doing just that, in today's metropolis.
Brand-new for 2017, BMW i3 showcases a 50% increase in battery capacity, up to 33 kilowatt-hours, thanks to higher lithium-ion cell energy density, and with battery dimensions that remain unchanged, keeping the dynamo space-efficient. The car's 170 hp AC synchronous electric motor enables rapid acceleration from zero to 60 mph in a little more than 7 seconds, so you can enjoy a ride quality both sporty and efficient.
And charging i3 is simpler than ever. BMW i now makes available a new BMW Home Charger Connect system, the automaker's power station, designed for at-home charging convenience and featuring a host of connected functionality. BMW has even begun installing electric charging stations in national parks, and those for BMW i3 kicked off a new era with showings in Thomas Edison National Historical Park.
